The LightHouse Fine Dining and Dancing

Step through the gleaming solid oak front doors of The Lighthouse in Rowlett and enter a world of sumptuous dining, discreet attentive service and lively entertainment, all presented in an atmosphere of refinement and elegance. The Lighthouse, created and owned by long-time Rowlett resident and entrepreneur Virgil F. Block, is reminiscent of the glory days of the high society supper clubs depicted in glamorous Hollywood movies: expect Fred and Ginger to float through the restaurant's intimate Club "She" Bar and Lounge, dancing to the music of the popular band, Morgan's Music, or spy Cary Grant enjoying an after dinner cordial and cigar in the Diamond V Cigar Lounge. Built on the shore of Lake Ray Hubbard, The Lighthouse Supper Club features a complete menu of appetizers, salads, the freshest seafood, the finest steaks available and mouthwatering desserts. The wine list, created for maximum compatibility with the cuisine, features California, Italian, French, Australian and Chilean wines.
The Lighthouse opened on December 2, 2000, and since then has served full capacity or near full capacity crowds. Despite its newness, the restaurant has the invaluable benefit of an experienced manager, George T. Smyrnios, who literally grew up in the restaurant business. "Having owned several restaurants in Washington, D.C., I observed the value of personal service and excellent service," says Mr. Smyrnios. "It's been my goal since then to provide guests with the best of everything."
Before becoming the manager of The Lighthouse, Mr. Smyrnios was the manager of Dallas' popular Nicholini's Seafood and Steaks. His experience and expertise no doubt contribute to the Lighthouse's smoothly run operation.
Executive Chef J. Alfredo Vazquez is an experienced restaurant chef. He has cooked for Ruth's Chris Steak House in Houston, Dallas, Cancun and Mexico City. He spent months prior to the December opening of the Lighthouse developing the restaurant's unique menu, which offers new twists on the classics as well as entirely new dishes.
Says Chef Vazquez, "Opening this restaurant was a creative challenge for me. I have personally cooked and tested every dish we serve and have loved doing it. I am looking forward to creating menus for special days and seasons, like Valentine's and Mother's Day."
Chef Vazquez' menu includes among the appetizers, Oyster Rockefeller, King Crab Cakes served over mixed greens with a spicy sauce, and Fruitti Calamari, fried calamari served with a marinara sauce. Salads include Blue Ranch Salad, romaine and spinach tossed with a special house dressing, caramelized walnuts and sesame goat cheese, and a tasty shrimp and artichoke mélange dressed in a vinaigrette with capers and cherry tomatoes. Seafood and pasta include a generous portion of grilled salmon filet, marinated in Dijon mustard, with fresh asparagus and baby carrots. The fresh catch of the day is served with sauteed shrimp, scallops and crab meat with fresh béarnaise sauce, and the spicy pescatore angel hair pasta is dressed in a light basil seafood sauce.
The USDA Prime Midwest grain fed aged beef offerings are named after owner Virgil Block's seven grandchildren: Justin's T-Bone, David's Bone-in Rib Eye, Joshua's New York Strip, Lauren's Petite Filet Mignon, Daniel's Peppered Filet Mignon, Brittany's Cognac Filet and Rachel's Peppato Filet provide ample choice for the beef lover. Lamb chops and blackened pork loin round out the meat offerings. Eight vegetable "sides" complete the dinner. Desserts include Neapolitan caramel coconut flan and chocolate espresso cake with mint sauce.
Diners are offered two separate dining rooms to ensure their dining comfort: The Captain's Quarter's is a non-smoking room seating 100 and features the moving art of a built-in aquarium of exotic fish. The Library, the dining room for smokers, seats 50, and features hand etched glass walls and bookshelves.
Live entertainment and dancing is available Wednesday thru Saturday evenings in the Club "She" Bar and Lounge. Morgan's Music, a three-piece house band that has been playing together for 19 years, offers tunes from the 40's and 50's through 2000, including jazz, swing, soft rock and golden oldies. Morgan's Music takes requests and can get anyone onto the dance floor. The classic horseshoe shaped bar provides a full range of beverages to be enjoyed before dinner and rocks until Midnight on Fridays and until 1:00am on Saturdays.
The elegantly appointed, wood paneled Diamond V Cigar Lounge has a charming fireplace and overlooks the moonlight shining on the lake. The Diamond V is the ideal place to enjoy an after dinner cordial or cappuccino. The Old Crow's Nest offers outside dining and entertainment just off the Club "She" and overlooks Lake Ray Hubbard. No detail has been overlooked in the restaurant's design and décor, resulting in a one of a kind dining experience that will delight the most sophisticated palate and please anyone wishing to while away an evening of luxurious dining and entertainment. Throughout the restaurant, nearly invisible "smoke eaters" installed in the ceilings provide a ventilation system that virtually eliminates all smoke from the building. The professional wait staff is dressed in crisp white tuxedo shirts and black tuxedo trousers. Diners are encouraged to "dress up rather than down," in keeping with the restaurant's well-appointed surroundings.
The Lighthouse is not a mid-priced restaurant. A la Carte offerings range from $19.95 to $29.95 for entrees, appetizers from $5.95 to $21.95, salads from $5.95 to $9.95 and all desserts are $6.00. Wine is available with dinner by the bottle or diners can choose from over 20 selections served by the glass. The food is lovely, both in presentation and flavor, the service thoughtful and the atmosphere relaxing and refined, all elements that make the prices worthy.
Mr. Smyrnios and Chef Vazquez have exciting plans for The Lighthouse.
"We want to make the restaurant a favorite place to create traditions. We can accommodate wedding receptions and rehearsal dinners in the Captain's Quarters and even cater to a solitary diner. Our special Valentine's evening this year booked up quickly, so we extended it from Wednesday through Saturday. February 15 was for those who forgot 'the day', February 16 was billed as 'Did you forget your #1 Mom', and Saturday, February 17 was for those who forgot their #1 Mother-in-law. The Lighthouse is family-owned and run by a hands-on crew. We look forward to becoming part of the lives of our neighbors in Rowlett, Rockwall, Heath and beyond. We have finally brought much anticipated and long awaited fine dining and entertainment to the lake."
